Broad Spectrum Antibiotic for Severe Infections.
1.PROPERTIES:
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with a wide spectrum of activity including: enterobacteriaceae, klebsiella, neisseria, haemophilus influenza, pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococci and some other gram positive bacteria.
CEPROZ acts by inhibiting the A subunit of DNA gyrase which is essential in the reproduction of bacterial DNA
.
2.INDICATIONS:
CEPROZ is used in the treatment of:
- Gastro - intestinal tract infections.
- Biliary tract infections.
- Urinary tract infections.
- Gonorrhoea.
- Lower respiratory tract infections.
- Skin and soft tissue infections.
- Bone and joint infections.
- Meningitis.
- Septicaemia.
- Q fever.
3.CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or to other quinolones.
CEPROZ should not be used in children, adolescents, pregnant women, breast feeding mothers.
4.PRECAUTIONS:
- CEPROZ should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy or history of CNS disorders, impaired hepatic or renal functions.
- Exposure to strong sun light should be avoided.
- An adequate fluid intake should be maintained during treatment.
- Doses should be reduced in patients with severe renal impairment.
5.SIDE EFFECTS:
CEPROZ may cause: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, tremor, drowsiness, skin rashes, increases in serum creatinine or blood urea, hepatitis, leucopenia.
6.DRUG INTERACTIONS:
- CEPROZ increases the plasma concentration of theophylin.
- Antiacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide decrease the absorption of CEPROZ. CEPROZ should be taken 2 - 4 hours before the use of those products.
- CEPROZ increases the effect of warfarin.
7.DOSAGE & ADMINISTRAION:
Oral dose of CEPROZ ranges from 250-750 mg twice daily depending on the severity and nature of the infection for not less than 7 days.
For the treatment of gonorrhoea: 500 mg as a single dose.
8.PACKAGING & COMPOSITION:
- CEPROZ 250 – Film Coated Tablets: A pack of 10 film coated tablets in blister. Each f.c.tablet contains Ciprofloxacin (HCl) 250 mg.
- CEPROZ 500 – Film Coated Tablets: A pack of 10 film coated tablets in blister. Each f.c.tablet contains Ciprofloxacin (HCl) 500 mg.
- CEPROZ 750 – Film Coated Tablets: A pack of 10 film coated tablets in blister. Each f.c.tablet contains Ciprofloxacin (HCl) 750 mg.
9.STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Store CEPROZ – Film Coated Tablets at temperature below 30°C.
