Broad Spectrum Antibiotic with Lactobacillus Sporogenes
1.PROPERTIES:
LACTOXAM Plus is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is bactericidal and active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria like ( staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, haemophilus influenzae, brucella, shigella, E.coli ).
Diarrhoea side effects due to antibiotics are minimized by the presence of Lactobacillus Sporogene which makes LACTOXAM Plus the best of others.
2.INDICATIONS:
It is used in the treatment of :
- Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis).
- Genitourinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis).
- Skin and soft tissue infections (carbuncles, abscess, folliculitis ).
- Meningitis
- Osteomyelitis
- Septicemia
For the prophylaxis of infections during and post operative surgery.
3.CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
- LACTOXAM Plus should not be given to the patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin.
- Infectious mononucleosis.
4.SIDE EFFECTS:
Diarrhoea side effects due to antibiotics are minimized by the presence of Lactobacillus Sporogene.
It may cause : skin rashes, pruritus, nausea, vomiting, neutropenia, eosinophillia and rarely hepatitis.
5.DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Probenecid reduces the excretion of LACTOXAM Plus.
An increased frequency of skin rashes in patients receiving LACTOXAM Plus with allopurinol.
LACTOXAM Plus may decrease the efficacy of oestrogen-containing oral contraceptives.
6.PRECAUTIONS:
LACTOXAM Plus should be given with caution :
- In patients with history of allergy, lymphocytic leukaemia and renal failure.
- Treatment should be discontinued, if a skin rash occurs.
7.DOSAGE & ADMINISTRAION:
Syrup:
Children:
- Up to 2 years: 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) each 6 hours, to be given 30 minutes before meals.
- From 2 - 10 years : 1 teaspoon (5 ml) each 6 hours, 30 minutes before meals or 25-50 mg/kg of body weight per day.
Capsules :
Adults:
One capsule (500 mg) each 6 hours should be given 30 minutes before meals.
8.PACKAGING & COMPOSITION:
- LACTOXAM PLUS - Capsules: A pack of 20 or 250 capsules. Each capsule contains Ampicillin (Trihydrate) 250 mg , Cloxacillin (Sodium)250 mg , Lactobacillus Sporogene 60 million spores.
- LACTOXAM PLUS – Dry powder for Oral Suspension: A pack of glass bottle of 100 mL. Each 5 mL after reconstitution contains Ampicillin (Trihydrate) 125 mg , Cloxacillin (Sodium)125 mg , Lactobacillus Sporogene 30 million spores.
9. STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Store - LACTOXAM PLUS – Capsules and Dry Powder for Oral Suspension at temperature between (15-30)°C.
