1. PROPERTIES:
Amlodipine is a calcium - channel blocker with a prolonged duration of action.
Amlodipine inhibits the cellular influx of calcium in vascular smooth muscles and myocardial muscle.
Amlodipine dilates the coronary and peripheral arteries and arterioles, reduces peripheral vascular resistance after load and hypertension.
2. INDICATIONS:
Amlodipine is used in the treatment of :
- Hypertension (alone or in combination with other agents).
- Chronic stable angina pectoris.
- Confirmed or suspected vasoplastic angina.
3. CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or any component of the product.
4. PRECAUTIONS:
- Amlodipine should be used with caution in patients with hypotension, severe aortic stenosis.
- Care must be taken when administering to patients with hepatic impairment.
5. WARNINGS:
Rarely patients with acute obstructive coronary disease have developed an increased frequency, severity of angina or acute myocardial infarction on starting calcium channel blocker therapy or at the time of dosage increase.
Pregnancy and lactation: Pregnancy Category C. Norvek may be used in pregnant women only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
It is recommended to the drug be discontinued during breastfeeding.
6. SIDE EFFECTS:
Amlodipine may rarely cause: Dizziness, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral oedema, gastrointestinal disturbances and rashes.
7. DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Amlodipine has been used safely with the following drugs:
Thiazide diuretics, angiotension converting enzyme inhibitors, beta-blockers, long-acting nitrates and/or sublingual nitroglycerin, digoxin, warfarin, NSAIDs, antibiotics and oral hypoglycemic drugs.
8. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRAION:
Hypertension and stable angina pectoris: 5 mg daily as a single dose and may be increased if necessary up to 10 mg daily.
Elderly patients or patients with hepatic insufficiency: 2.5 mg once daily.
This dose may be used when adding Amlodipine to other antihypertension therapy.
9. PACKAGING & COMPOSITION:
- NORVEK 5 – Tablets: A pack of 30 tablets. Each tablet contains Amlodipine (Besylate) 5 mg.
- NORVEK 10 – Tablets: A pack of 20 tablets. Each tablet contains Amlodipine (Besylate) 10 mg.
- NORVEK 5 – Capsules: A pack of 30 capsules. Each capsule contains Amlodipine (Besylate) 5 mg.
- NORVEK 10 – Capsules: A pack of 30 capsules. Each capsule contains Amlodipine (Besylate) 10 mg.
10.STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Store NORVEK 5-10 Tablets at temperature between (15-30)°C.
