Furosemide + Amiloride HCl
Diuretic with potassium conserving property
1. PROPERTIES:
FRUMILINE contains two compounds:
- Furosemide, which is a potent and rapid diuretic. It inhibits the absorption of electrolyte in the loop of Henle.
- Amiloride, which is a mild diuretic with potassium-sparing properties which acts on the distal renal tubules.
This combination in FRUMILINE increases the diuretic effect and keeps the level of potassium in the blood.
2. INDICATIONS:
FRUMILINE is used in the treatment of:
- Oedema associated with congestive heart failure, pulmonary, renal and hepatic disorders.
- Hypertension.
- Hypercalcaemia.
3. CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- Hyperkalaemia.
- Pre-comatose states associated with hepatic cirrhosis.
- Severe renal insufficiency.
- Anuria.
- Pregnancy and lactation.
4. PRECAUTIONS:
- FRUMILINE should be given with care to the elderly patients and patients with diabetes mellitus, renal or hepatic failure, and prostatic hypertrophy.
- FRUMILINE should not be given with potassium supplements.
- Serum electrolytes and blood urea should be estimated periodically.
5. SIDE EFFECTS:
It may cause electrolyte disturbance (hyponatraemia), nausea, vomiting, headache, skin rash, orthostatic hypotension, hyperglyceamia, hyperuricaemia, dehydration, disturbance in the hepatic function.
6. DRUG INTERACTIONS:
- FRUMILINE may enhance the nephrotoxicity of cephalosporin antibiotics and the ototoxicity of aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- The diuretic effect of FRUMILINE is reduced by concomitant anticonvulsant and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory therapy.
- FRUMILINE should not be used with other potassium-sparing drugs or angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (because of the risk of hyperkalaemia).
7. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRAION:
One tablet per day to 4 tablets per day or as directed by the physician.
